University of Pennsylvania Quadrangle Renovations

The historically significant residential Quad Dormitory at the University consists of several interconnecting buildings constructed over nearly half a century, encompassing three college houses—Fisher Hassenfeld College House, Ware College House, and Riepe College House—totaling approximately 516,500 GSF. This complex exhibits a variety of structural systems and has undergone several major renovations, necessitating careful coordination of renovation details. Phase 1 of the project is complete, with the Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO) received at the beginning of August 2024. This phase included the careful construction of two new elevators to connect several offset floor elevations, creating an accessible space, as well as new switchgear and electrical upgrades. Additionally, 16 historic chimneys were repaired.

The Riepe section of the Quad dorm housing has been completed and turned back over to Penn, with student move-in scheduled for the end of August 2024. Phase 2 is currently underway, focusing on the Ware section of the Quad. The overall scope of work includes comprehensive interior renovations, building envelope repairs, roof replacement, and chimney stabilization. Phase 3, Fisher Hassenfeld, is scheduled to begin in 2025.
