Renovation and addition of the First Bank of the United States for the National Park Service as part of the Independence National Historic Park for use as a new museum. The project involves both minor renovations to the existing building as well as a three-story addition with a basement on the west elevation of the existing building which will house a stair, elevator, and reception and lobby areas that align with the existing floors providing a new entrance into the building. The basement and first floor of the addition are concrete podium with three steel framed stories above. All of the construction above grade will be wrapped in a brick veneer to mimic the masonry construction of the original building. Two full height curtain walls at the building joint will visually separate the new from the old. The steel framed structure cantilever’s out from columns to avoid large disturbances to the existing building. Renovations in the existing building involve the removal of an elevator and new slab infill at that area. Currently the project is in Design Development.
