Athletic Center Renovation | Saint Joseph's University

The current facilities include the 1948 Field House, which houses Hagan Arena, along with two significant expansions from 1982 and 2007. These expansions introduced practice courts, a natatorium, event spaces like the Hall of Fame Room, and updated locker facilities. To better serve University students, faculty, and staff with modernized performance areas, enhanced practice facilities, improved team spaces, and upgraded spectator areas, modest additions and renovations to the existing Athletic Center complex are essential.

Keast & Hood is providing full design and construction administration services for the renovation and expansion of the Athletic Center facilities. Structural services include infilling the current pool structure to convert the natatorium into an indoor turf area. The project also involves expanding the Hagan Arena lobby to enhance the gameday experience. Additionally, the firm is overseeing the replacement of the 1982 addition’s metal panel and masonry exterior veneer with new stone veneer to align with the campus aesthetic. New fixed windows are being integrated into the exterior walls, enhancing the building’s visual appeal and connectivity. New floor and roof structures are being added above the existing low roof to create a VIP space overlooking the Hagan Arena court. Modifications will include improved circulation via a new student athlete entrance and optimized space for athletic equipment in the practice courts. The firm is also supporting the project by advising on mechanical systems upgrades to meet modern standards for athletic performance and comfort.

The Sustainable Objective is LEED® v4 for Building Design and Construction – New Construction and Major Renovation – Silver Certification.
